You like me! Right now, you like me!

llama-c-tambako-the-jaguar-flickrI remember (unlike 99.999% of my classmates) when Sally Field won her Oscar for Places in the Heart and delivered the title line of this post. Not that this post has anything to do with Sally Field.

Nope, it’s about the two different animal encounters I had today in which I felt as though this whole vet school thing was a good choice for me. During which I found myself thinking, “You like me!”

The first occurred while the handsome boyfriend and I were out hiking and came across some Forest Service volunteers with a couple of pack llamas. We got to pet the llamas, and one of the llamas kept leaning his head in toward me to nuzzle. His handler said, “Wow! He really likes you!” That always makes me feel good, when animals like me. Feed me. Now.

dogclockOur clinic cat, Elliot, thinks he is starving all the time. I can’t say I really blame him, seeing as how one of the notes in his chart from his previous vet says something like, “Advised owner that if he would be gone for 18 months, eventually he would need to have a cat sitter come in…” !?!?!?!

So I think Elliot’s meals might have been a little sporadic before he came to live with us. (By the way, I don’t think Elliot really likes it when I tell that story–sorry, E–but I do think it explains his affinity for food pretty well.)

He, like many critters I’ve met, has an uncanny sense about feeding time. In his case, he begins meowing non-stop exactly one hour before his scheduled feeding. I’ve taken to saying, “No, Elliot. When the big hand gets to the Labrador Retriever, THEN you can eat.”

I am referring to the cutesy dog clock we have that barks on the hour. Well, it used to bark on the hour until we debarked it. It was either that or euthanize the clock with a hammer… Read the rest of this entry »

Put a fork in her–she’s done!

Hooray, I am done with school for the year!

Finals are over, grades are in, and now I can relax. Well, I can start working my patooti off to save money for next school year, anyway.

The last month of school was incredibly stressful. I don’t think I’ve ever studied so hard, but it paid off with straight A pluses in upper division science classes. Sorry, CSU vet school, but I just can’t do any better than that… I hope it’s good enough!
